Created by Scott Hander, Kevin Buchanan, and Jim Mick in 2002, The Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, known locally as The MJO, is Denver's premier jazz orchestra. As founder, Scott Handler has developed the bands' vision and focus, playing lead trumpet and acting as Concertmaster for nineteen of Denver's best musicians.

While keeping with a busy performance schedule, and hosting twice monthly "MJO Presents" high school programs, the MJO has a high profile in the music community. The MJO performs in and around Denver for various concerts, fairs, benefits/galas, weddings, school functions and holiday programs.

Granted a 501(c)(3) non-profit status in May 2006, the MJO is operated by a three member Board of Directors, and are a designated "Tier III" SCFD organization.
